Previous studies include a master’s in classical voice from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and his undergraduate degree in voice at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.

Jan van der Wel’s performances to date include Laurindo in Telemann’s Die Satyren in Arcadien (Netherlands Bach Society) and Le chat in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortileges at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

A keen concert singer, his repertoire includes Bach’s passions and Mass in B minor (BWV 232) as well as Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Brahm’s EIn deutsches Requiem Op. 45.

Repertoire at the DNOA includes Susa Transformations (Singer #8), Pergolesi’s La serva padrona (Uberto), the European premiere of Benjamin Perry Wenzelberg’s Nighttown (Leopold Bloom), Donizetti Il campanello (Don Annibale Pistacchio) and the Parson and badger in Leoš Janáček’s Příhody lišky Bystroušky (The Cunning Little Vixen).
