Einar Thor Gudmundsson

Originally from Iceland, Einar Thor Gudmundsson studied with Rita Dams and Frans Fiselier at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. During his studies his performances have included Bach’s B minor Mass both in the Netherlands and abroad, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte, Bas van Yperen’s Lazar in the Opera Forward Festival at the Dutch National Opera, the title role in Judith Weir’s Blond Eckbert in a production with the Dutch National Opera Academy, John Cage ‘Song Books’, Barber’s A Hand of Bridge, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten and John Rutter’s Requiem. Before moving abroad, Einar began his music studies as a classical pianist from the year 2000 to 2014, where eventually he found his passion in classical singing. He performed in four Icelandic operas from 2012 to 2016 and in various oratorio concerts, an opera festival in 2015 and a Baroque festival in 2016. In his time in Iceland, he was a member of three choirs and an octet over a period of five years.

DNOA roles 2021/22 include Graun Cleopatra e Cesare (Achilla), Argento Postcard from Morocco (A Man with a Shoe Sample Kit) and Die Zauberflöte (Papageno).

Furthermore, he will make his debut with the Nederlandse Reisopera in a pocket version of Puccini’s La bohème (Schaunard).
