Raoul Steffani (1992) / baritone
Baritone Raoul Steffani studied with Xenia Meijer and Maarten Koningsberger at the conservatories of Tilburg and Amsterdam and with Peter Edelmann at the University of Music of Performing Arts in Vienna. In September 2016 he joined the Dutch National Opera Academy and studies with Margreet Honig. He has also participated in masterclasses with Thomas Hampson, Elly Ameling, Christa Ludwig, Marjana Lipovšek and Nelly Miricioiu.
Raoul is the recipient of the "Elisabeth Evertsprijs 2016" and the 2016 "Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours" and he is also a finalist in the Dutch Classical Talent Tour & Award. As laureate of the Prinses Christina Concours he was invited by the Dutch embassies to perform in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Calgary and Athens.
This season he can be heard twice in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam during NTR ZaterdagMatinee in Prokovjev’s "Semyon Kotko" conducted by Vladimir Jurowsky, and as Kammersänger in Richard Strauss’ opera "Intermezzo" with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest conducted by David Zinman.
Raoul performs regularly in some of the best concert halls in the Netherlands including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht and the Grachtenfestival.
An active recitalist, he has worked with the German pianist Gerold Huber in song recitals in Munich and Eindhoven. On the operatic stage he has performed Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus (Strauss). As an oratorio soloist, he has sung, among others St Matthew Passion and St John Passion by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozarts Requiem, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Oratorio de Noël by Saint-Säens, and Messiah by Handel.
