Flora Macdonald / Mezzo-Soprano
Mezzo-soprano Flora Macdonald studied with Alex Ashworth, Audrey Hyland and Matthew Fletcher at the Royal Academy of Music, where she won the 2017 Isabel Jay Prize and was supported by the Josephine Baker Trust.
Her roles include Fanny Price in Dove’s Mansfield Park (Waterperry Opera Festival), Stewardess in Dove’s Flight (Royal Academy Opera), Flora in Dove’s The Enchanted Pig (Hampstead Garden Opera), Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Magnetic Opera), Dido (Wigmore Hall) and Sorceress (Grange Festival) in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Sarcastic Halli in Alex Paxton’s new opera Thorstein Shiver with Helios Collective at the English National Opera’s Lilian Baylis House and Wu in Maxwell Davies' Kommilitonen! (Welsh National Youth Opera - Best Opera at the Wales Theatre Awards 2017).
Flora graduated from Cardiff University with First-class honours in her BMus degree. She was awarded the Sir Geraint Evans Prize and the David Lloyd Prize. While there, she worked with composer Robert Fokkens, which cultivated her love of contemporary music. Since then, she has worked with Judith Weir, Errollyn Wallen, Howard Skempton, David Pountney, Jonathan Moore and the Juice Vocal Ensemble (Sarah Dacey, Kerry Andrew and Anna Snow).
