Deborah Saffery (1987) / mezzo-soprano
Chilean Mezzo-Soprano Deborah Saffery (1987) started her vocal studies in Santiago de Chile at the “Instituto de Música de la Pontificie Universidad Católica” with Prof. Richard Kistler. In 2011 Deborah moved to Germany to continue her studies with Prof. Towako Sato-Schöllhorn at the “Hochschule für Musik” in Freiburg im Breisgau, where she graduated summa cum laude in 2015.
Deborah has taken part as a soloist in various projects, in roles such as the 2. Dame in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte", and the Forester’s Wife in "The cunning little vixen" by Janaček. She has also sung in many chamber music recitals and concerts in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, France and the Netherlands.
Since September 2016, Deborah is part of the Dutch National Opera Academy, with Margreet Honig as her voice teacher, for which she received a scholarship from the “Fundación Ibáñez Atkinson”. In 2017, she performed the role of “Prince Charmant” in Massenet’s Cendrillon and “Il Paggio della Duchessa” in Verdi’s Rigoletto at The Dutch National Opera, led by Carlo Rizzi and directed by Damiano Micchieletto and “Hänsel” in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel led by Antony Hermus and NJO.
She has participated in master classes with many great singers and teachers including Julie Kennard, Olga Orlowska, Ira Siff and Anna Bonitatibus.
Upcoming Roles for Deborah are ”Lucretia” from Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten (led by Karel Deseure) and ”Dorabella” from Cosi Fan Tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
